After a gap year due to the current sanitary situation, IUM finally celebrated not just one but two cohorts of graduated students!
Students from the Class of 2020 and 2021, their families, and professors gathered in the Grimaldi Forum’s Salle des Princes on 10-11 December to praise their achievements.
Classes of 2020 and 2021 received their diplomas
This year, four hundred eighty-five students received their diplomas.
Dressed with the usual black caps and gowns, these graduating students from 44 nationalities climbed on stage to collect this symbolic piece of paper—the happy epilogue of several years of study and the long-awaited debut on the job market.
Members of the Monegasque government were present to greet the Monaco students with a standing ovation as they solemnly entered the hall.

We also had the chance to welcome two fantastic keynote speakers:
- Andrea Guadenzi, who is a former Italian tennis player who reached a career high ATP singles ranking No. 18 of world in 1995. He graduated in law from the University of Bologna, and obtained an MBA degree with Honors at IUM. Mr. GAUDENZI currently serves as Executive Chairman of the ATP Tour, the governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour and the ATP Champions Tour, and is a board member of ATP Media.
- Antonio Fantin, who is a swimmer from Italy who competes in Paralympic S5 and SM5 (individual medley) events. In Tokyo 2020, Antonio has been a Paralympic Champion Gold Medalist and World Record 100mt freestyle, and won four Silver and a Bronze Medal. He is currently three times World Champion, eight times European Champion, and five World Record Holder.
A day to celebrate achievements and new opportunities
“These two classes have experienced a unique journey, especially the class of 2020!
All of us at the International University of Monaco are especially proud of our graduates for their persistence, perseverance, and adaptability during what has been an extraordinary year. They should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved,” says Jean Philippe Muller, the school’s director-general.
“All of this will serve them well in the working world. Parents might be worried about their future. Nothing is reassuring in this unpredictable world. But it is also full of opportunities, especially for young people who are familiar with new technologies.”
The graduation ceremony marks the end of an era but also celebrates new beginnings as they embark on their career or continue with more in-depth studies. “Many of our graduates are also launching their own business. In this world of opportunities, there will be plenty of room for individual initiative,” says Jean-Philippe Muller. The job market will be open. After this complicated period, companies have realized that they need to change, innovate, modernize, and introduce new practices. It is the best time for young graduates to seize all opportunities.”
Dream Big
Such words were the mantra of these two graduation ceremonies, mentioned several times by program directors, student representatives, and our keynote speakers.
“Dreaming big doesn’t mean to already have a specific career in mind or to have already started a specific job, but to aspire for something that motivates us to wake up every day to keep learning and fighting in this long journey which is called life, explained Manila DI GIOVANNI, Bachelor student 2021.”
And as Antonio Fantin, our keynote speaker said in his speech addressed to our students:
“Dream big, but above all know how to set a date on that dream to make it close to you, plan your path, and never be afraid of obstacles or defeats because they are the foundation for success. Moreover, of course, it will be difficult to reconcile all the commitments, but in the end, it is worth it.
Life needs only one rule: live!”
