From February 25th to March 1st, MSc in Sports Business Management students went to Switzerland.

MSc in Sports Business Management - Field Trip

Lausanne

DAY 1 started with a meeting led by Pere Miro, the Director of Aquatics Sports at World Aquatics. His presentation guided students on an exploratory journey through the world of aquatic sports.

Following this presentation, Greta Avola, AQUA’s Senior Marketing Manager, introduced the group to the company’s new brand and marketing strategies.

Next, Luca Fasani, AQUA’s Senior Digital Manager, explained the company’s digital presence and social media initiatives.

Then, Nicola Rogers, AQUA’s HR Manager & Office, gave them an overview of a typical day at World Aquatics. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a trivia game.

In the afternoon, at the International Federation for Equestrian Sports, Francisco Lima, the FEI Governance Director, made a presentation on FEI governance.

Then, Derek Vulliemin, the Digital Manager, and Brönte Goodwing, the Digital Campaigns Manager, led a session focused on digital strategies. Finally, Didier Montes, the Communication Manager, presented insights on PR & Communication.

DAY 2, students started the day at the Olympic Museum with a presentation entitled “How We Work Together to Deliver the Games” by two speakers: Suzanne Brodeur, Head of Planning and Integration, and Renata Siciliano, Senior Programme Manager at the Olympic Games Department.

Next, Michelle Lemaître, Head of Sustainability at the IOC, discussed sustainable development initiatives in the organization.

The final presenter was Aditya Aditya, Head of Media Strategy & Business Intelligence at IOC Television and Marketing Services. Aditya shared insights into media strategies.

In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to view the archives of The Olympic Studies Centre and were then divided into two groups to present a selection of historical archives and documents. Following the presentations, they enjoyed a guided visit to the Olympic Museum.

To finish this day, the students attended a Lausanne vs Genève-Servette hockey match.

DAY 3, the students visited the World Cycling Centre. Then, Isabella Burczak, the Advocacy and Development Manager, presented UCI Cycling for All, focusing on sustainable development.

Then, a presentation on LADS (Legal Anti-doping Services) was delivered by Lionel Balif, the Manager of LADS, and Andreai Krasilnikau, focusing on innovation and homologation processes.

Later, Jocelyn Rannou, the Key Account Coordinator, presented insights into UCI Marketing and Merchandising strategies.

The day concluded with a quiz and wine tasting at the castle of Lausanne.



MIES

DAY 4 started with a tour of the FIM, led by Barbara Vicentini, the Education and Training Manager.

Later, Damiano Zamana, the Deputy CEO & Operations Director, provided insights about its governance.

Then, Fabio Muner, the Marketing & Digital Director, presented the marketing and digital strategy and its commercial aspects.

Martin Z’graggen, the Marketing Coordinator, introduced the students to the new FIM.

In the afternoon, they went to BCW Switzerland, a communication agency specialized in assisting event-hosting cities, particularly in sports. They met Greg Curchod, the CEO, who presented the firm. At night, a networking cocktail took place, attended by individuals from the sports world, where the students could converse with Aneesh Madani and Armelle Canet. Questions and answers followed a round table during the event.

Day 5 ended the trip with a museum tour of FIBA, International Basketball Federation, followed by a general presentation of FIBA’s governance. Rachel Rominger, the Media Relations & TV Rights Manager for FIBA 3×3 (alumna), presented the new popular sport in the Olympics, 3×3 basketball. Next, Paulina Fritz, Senior Project Associate at Basketball for Good, highlighted the legacy program of the FIBA Foundation, focusing on education through basketball. Then, Miguel Font, curator, and historical collections manager, led the group on a museum tour.
