Meet with Loreana, a young talented Italian/American, 2nd year Bachelor of Business Administration, Honors Track.
How did you come about the idea of studying abroad?
I’ve always been hungry for the unknown. I was raised in an environment that encouraged me to push boundaries continually, question the world around me, and travel was the method that my parents used to teach me. The first time I got on a plane, I wasn’t even one year old, and I haven’t stopped traveling since. However, the more I traveled, the more I noticed how tiny I am compared to the vastness of our world. At first, knowing that there is so much to learn, so many books to read, so many people to meet, and so many cities to discover, frustrated me. I wanted to know it all, yet I knew it was impossible. Eventually, I decided to convert that frustration into something much more productive. At that moment, I promised myself that I would never stop asking questions, reading, and discovering the world.
Studying abroad has been something I’ve been doing for a very long time. I’ve gone to over fifteen schools in my life, and I’m only 21. The idea of studying abroad never came to me; it just always seemed like the logical thing to do. It was always in my plans, and it was something certain and undebatable.
Why did you choose to study at a business school?
My future career path was very unclear. Until recently, I didn’t know if I wanted to end up in a law school, medical school, or something else. I must have taken over twenty online career tests, and the answers were as varied as they come. The day came where the time to decide was pressing, and I turned to the people that knew me best, my parents. When I told them about my dilemma, they looked at each other and started laughing. It was so obvious to them that I should study business!
And as simple as that, I now find myself in a business school today and loving it.
Why is IUM the best choice for you?
Studying at IUM is exactly what it sounds like. You are in a city that has the power of beautifully bringing together thousands of different people, all driven by different things, yet sharing that passion in a way that allows you to be included in it all. What is great about it is that the success of the people around you enrobes you daily, and the opportunity to learn from them knocks at your door every day. You are so overwhelmed by a myriad of different jobs, options, and fields of interest that the only thing left for you to do is reach out, learn from it, and build yourself from there. Monaco has the magic of showing you that the possibilities are endless if you are a dedicated individual and willing to put in the work.
Professors are what makes it worth going to class. Some are full-time faculty and researcher. Some are business professionals, yet decided to teach because they enjoy doing so. It’s a good balance between the business and the academic world, between theory and practice. The knowledge and business insights we receive are priceless.
What do you expect to learn during your studies? What is your dream career goal?
As mentioned previously, what I want to do precisely is still quite foggy to me. My constant dilemma is that I want to identify a specific field that interests me. Yet, I find myself interested in so many things that narrowing it down to one area seems impossible. Over the past year, however, I’ve been able to sort through the things that interest me and the things that I see myself doing and sharing with others daily. The repertoire is still quite varied, but further narrowing it down my most significant objective during my studies.
The broadest possible theme of this repertoire is health and fitness. I come from a family with tennis at the very core of all decisions, so sports has been a theme throughout my life, and I’m dedicated to keeping it that way. However, I’m also greatly influenced by my mother, who is a doctor. My father and mother are businessmen(women) in their respective fields, and it’s something that I see myself doing as well. I see myself somehow combining these two pillars in my life and making my own.
