We recently met with Emerson Althaus, a bright, smart bachelor’s student from Colorado, United States.
Hi, everyone!
I am a year 2 bachelor’s student at IUM. I’ve been fortunate enough to find IUM and further my education after high school. Today, I will dive into my IUM journey and what brought me here!
I had to study at IUM!
I was drawn to IUM for a variety of reasons. It is known for its location and prestige. IUM is in Monaco’s heart, making it a fantastic location to study. Not only this but Monaco is also located on the French Riviera, which lines it with stunning beaches and amazing weather. There are many beaches along the coast, all different in some way!
When I first applied to the university, I didn’t know much about what I wanted to do for my career. I thought business was interesting and could lead me to many possibilities. I also really loved sports, and I still do! When I realized IUM had a sports specialization, I was immediately intrigued. I realized I wanted to work in the sports industry, and pairing that with a marketing degree would set me up for success. For this main reason, I knew I had to study at IUM. After that, everything was a bonus.
Diversity
Over 70 nationalities are represented within the school, which makes the university more appealing. I wanted to immerse myself in European culture and learn everything I could. As a student, you are connected with so many people that you will learn something new about a culture or place. The curriculum was one of the last reasons I was drawn to IUM. It is designed to include practical experiences such as case studies, company projects, and internships, allowing the students to put theoretical knowledge into practice.
My IUM Journey
Every day at IUM looks a little different. Some days can be very course-heavy, while others have more free time. During an average week, I have about 2-3 classes a day but can have big breaks in between, which is excellent for getting lunch or coffee. On days that are not as course-heavy, there are many things I like to do: some include going to the beach, spending time with friends, walking, and exploring new cities. There are so many exciting places around Monaco; a new town can be explored daily! In addition, there are many associations and clubs at IUM, such as the Entrepreneurship Club, Finance Club, Charity Club, Luxury Club, Running Team, Cheerleading Team, and so many more.
Sports Business Management Specialization
For my third-year specialization, I chose Sports Business Management. Growing up, sports always surrounded me, and my passion for them has only deepened over time. IUM’s renowned sports program made it clear that this was the perfect place and specialization for me. Looking ahead, I aspire to build a career in sports marketing.
Advice for future students: The journey to study in Monaco can be a lengthy process. It involves securing accommodation, completing university registration, arranging finances, and, if necessary, obtaining a visa. While the process may take time, it is absolutely worth it and culminates in a moment of immense pride.
