Meet with Anna Padovan, MSc in Luxury Management 2020, and Senior Digital Buyer & Merchandiser at New Guards Group

What are the biggest professional challenges of working in such a demanding industry?

In the luxury industry, creativity is key. Constantly proposing innovative ideas is essential to remain competitive and relevant. You must always reinvent your business to captivate the ever-changing tastes of target generations, attracting customers who expect more and more. One of the toughest challenges is relationship management—both with high-level suppliers and demanding customers who have high expectations and advanced education.

How did your experience in Monaco shape your career in Luxury Management?

My time in Monaco allowed me to step into the heart of the luxury world, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience. The opportunity to interact with the industry in such a direct way, combined with the knowledge from my studies, prepared me for my first professional role.

What are the key takeaways from the MSc in Luxury Management program that you graduated from?

This program offers unique experiences you won’t find in any other location—Monaco Yacht Show, Fashion Week, Mark Challenge, in-store analysis, and much more. It gave me a deep understanding of what luxury truly means and allowed me to interact with industry experts, while working in a vibrant, multicultural environment.

What mindset is essential to succeed in this program?

An open, international mindset is crucial. It enables you to engage meaningfully with different cultures, deepen your understanding of the subjects discussed in class, and connect with your colleagues. Success requires hard work, curiosity, and an eagerness to absorb everything this experience has to offer.

How did this experience change you personally?

Studying abroad for the first time was a life-changing experience. I met people from diverse backgrounds, which not only broadened my professional perspective but also helped me identify my personal priorities in life.

What are your future goals?

My first future goal is to become buying manager in the fashion luxury industry.

What advice would you give to future IUM students?

Embrace everything Monaco has to offer. Participate in events, show initiative, be curious, and dive deeply into every subject, project, and culture you encounter. And above all, stay ambitious.
